Site-based Master’s Degree/Certificate of Advanced Student Program with ELL and/or Reading Licensure
 
 

The ACCELA Alliance, a UMASS/Springfield Partnership, is recruiting a cohort of inservice teachers of ELL and/or Language Arts for a site-based Master’s degree/Certificate of Advanced Studies program with an ESL and/or Reading Licensure.

Courses will take place evenings during the school year and days during the summer. This 2 to 2.5 year program (depending on licensure goals) with coursed taught by faculty from the UMASS Language, Literacy & Culture Concentration and offered on-site in Springfield and/or Holyoke. Courses are scheduled so that teachers can complete requirements for ESL licensure within the 4th trimester or first full year and can complete the master’s or CAGS program by the end the 7th trimester or second full year. Those pursuing Reading Licensure will add an additional trimester top complete the requirements for the Reading Licensure.

This inquiry-based program is focused on student learning with a specific focus on English Language Learners. UMASS faculty and project assistants will help teachers document and analyze learning their own classrooms and use the data they collect to redesign their instructional practices to better meet the needs of all learners in heterogeneous classes.

Teachers applying to the program will need to fulfill all requirements for admission to the Graduate Studies Program. Financial Aid will be available to those who qualify. Everyone is eligible for some form of financial aid so we urge you to apply as soon as possible.
