Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a markup language that produces an uncomplicated format, easily read by humans and machines. XML emphasizes Internet simplicity, universality, and usability. While hundreds of document formats use its syntax, XML is also widely used in web services, and its formats have also become the default for many office-productivity tools, including Microsoft Office and Apple's iWork.
